What I learned at school Today!^_^

This is right out of my Human Communications book.

"A good topic is culturally sensitive, so select a topic that will not offend members of other cultures (who may even be in your audience). At the same time, recognize that we live in a time when a person's level of cultural sensitivity is taken as a sign of education and sophistication, qualities that can only help a speaker."

"Culturally sensitive", is in italics to indicate that it is in the glossary, if you need to look it up. I think that, "who may even be in your audience", is in parentheses because it is meant to be read in a whisper.

" To take one example, in many Arab, Asian, and African cultures, discussing sex in an audience of men and women would be considered obscene and offensive. In Scandinavian cultures, on the other hand, sex is expected to be discussed openly and without embarrassment or discomfort."

A Slight majority.

"Here are some additional examples of topics that intercultural experts recommend that visiting Americans avoid. These taboo topics change with the times, however, so what is true today may not be true tomorrow:

  • In the Caribbean, avoid discussions of race, local politics, and religion.
  • in Colombia, avoid politics and the criticism of bullfighting.
  • In Egypt, avoid Middle Eastern politics.
  • In japan, avoid discussion of World War II
  • In Mexico, avoid talking about the Mexican-American War and illegal aliens.
  • In the Philippines, avoid discussing politics, religion, corruption, or foreign aid.
  • In South Korea, don't talk about internal politics or voice criticism of the government, socialism, or communism.
  • In Spain, avoid discussions of family, religion, or jobs, and refrain from making negative comments on bullfighting."
Don't speak at all in Spain if you can help it.

well, look at You!...

If Xanga was my friend, she would not be the kind of friend I could get back in the good with real easy.
I never forgot about xanga, I still visit my friend's sites to check up on them(or you if it's you). I just stopped feeling like I have much to share.

I am the kind of friend that wants to pick up where we left off.  Unfortunately, I also never know how much I should Hello people when I see them. So, if you see me out there, either be prepared to conduct our interactions or just walk up and let me smile at you for a while.

Well.. aaaa., ., seeya round.

April Fools!

Esta Manana, mi amiga Irene goes into the bathroom while her 3 or 4 year old brother is showering.  She fains shock, "Javier, why are you naked?!"  Javier is confused, "I always shower naked."  Irene calls him a freak. She says no one showers naked.  Javier blames their mother and is ashamed for his ignorance.

My friend Bonnie tells her very new boyfriend that she is pregnant, and She doesn't know what to do.  Unfortunately, he ruined the good joke by taking it in stride and asking her how she felt about abortion. He even gave her some ballpark prices to expect.

If you don't mind my asking,

How has your summer been?

How does it stack against summers passed?

What is the most summery thing you've done thus far, this summer?

If you were dictator of the world, would you make everyone nearly identical, make all their decisions for them, yatayatayata in the classic sense;  Would you just kind of subtly lead them to do your will, tell them to make the most of their moderate lives; or Would you let everyone pretty much as they were and ride out your rule on tax collections, which wouldn't have to be so much, since they'd be coming from all over the world, they might not even be enough to annoy anyone to the point that they are willing to come kill you., put up a bunch of themeparks everywhere, and generally have any kind of fun you wanted?

If, as dictator of the world, you were faced with the decision of how to get rid of  someone; Would you be like the first or second kind of dictator and dispose of them discreetly by either, A.) exile him to some where unimportant (which would be hard to do because you are dictator of the world and you are the kind of dictator that want to have a clean realm and not the kind of dictator who would spend billions to send someone they didn't even like to another planet) or B.) shoot them?, or would you be like the third dictator and in necessity to alleviate yourself and your world of a pest, not hatred, you round up the world's best competitive eaters and the most compulsive of all the compulsive eaters, and make them fast while tantalizing them ruthlessly with hamburgers and donuts, then  release said offender with hamburgers and donuts glued all over him into their midst, and after everyone has calmed down, thank them all for their contribution to the community and pay for their sufferings by giving them season passes to their favorite themeparks (that they probably won't use)?
